Júlio César praised the performance of Fernandinho after Brazil secured a top spot finish in Group A with a resounding 4-1 victory over Cameroon.

Neymar scored twice before Fred and Fernandinho added further goals as Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team produced a performance reminiscent of their Confederations Cup displays last year.

Lancenet quoted the Queens Park Rangers keeper, who praised the strength of the group.

Júlio César said: “It was an ideal way to demonstrate what has been demonstrated in the Confederations Cup match.

“Even after conceding a goal once again, we were not in despair because we knew we were getting the result.

“Congratulations to us and Fernandinho, who started well and showed the strength of the group.”

The 34-year-old briefly discussed the challenge that awaits Brazil – they face Chile on Saturday in the round of 16 clash.

Júlio César expects a tough test but is confident that Chile’s weaknesses can be exploited, he added: “It’s a team that has been playing well for a long time.

“It’s a team that complicates but I think we will prepare ourselves well for this game. Like any good team, they have few negatives too. Let’s try to focus on that.”
