Brazil forward Fred paid tribute to his team mates after scoring his first goal in the 2014 World Cup.

The 30-year-old had come under intense pressure recently after two abject performances in Seleção’s opening Group A matches.

Head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari kept the faith with him though and it was rewarded as the Fluminense forward nodded home the crucial third.

Sky Sports quoted him after the game and he expressed his delight, adding: “Thank God this goal finally happened.

“I was being criticised very heavily and I tried to keep calm. The squad were wonderful with me, I have to thank everybody.”

Fred was sporting a moustache against Cameroon and he lauded his effort as a “moustache goal” as the ball bounced off it and in.

He concluded: “As amazing as it sounds, the ball hit my moustache – it was a moustache goal.”
