South American side Chile, who could well end up facing tournament hosts Brazil in the second round of the upcoming World Cup, won their final warm-up game against Northern Ireland in Valparaiso last night thanks to late goals from their substitutes.

The Chileans, seen as many peoples’ picks as competition dark horses, had to wait until the final ten minutes for the win through goals from Eduardo Vargas and Mauricio Pinilla; both goals were assisted by team talisman and Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez.

Chile have to negotiate a difficult Group B that also contains defending world champions Spain, beaten finalists four years ago the Netherlands, and Australia if they are to make it into the knockout stages, where in all probability they would set up an intriguing fixture against Brazil for the right to make it through to the quarter finals.
