Brazil left-back Maxwell, who will be playing at his first World Cup at the age of 32, has told reporters that the Selecao are only concentrating on themselves ahead of the tournament’s big start, despite there being amny great sides in the competition.

Maxwell, who plays in France for PSG and will act as an understudy to Real Madrid’s Marcelo, said: “We’ll only have great teams. Eight previous World champions will be in play, but we have to think about our first three group opponents first: Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon.”

“But it all comes down to us. It all comes down to how we behave once we get on the pitch. The trust and relationship between the players and the coach is great.”

“It is important to have staff with such experience. And we have been trying to profit from the motivation people give us.”

“Let’s try to do our best on the pitch, with energy and dedication. This is what matters most right now.”
