Real Madrid defender Marcelo addressed the media in Brazil recently and admitted the 2013/14 campaign had been a difficult one for himself.

The Brazilian ended the club season with a Champions League medal but for large parts of the year found himself out of the side.

AS quoted the 26-year-old, he said: “It’s been a difficult season for me. Only I know what I went through to play that game and it was a sacrifice.

“Playing in the final and scoring was a relief and a feeling of accomplishment. I had a lot of help in my family and in the sacrifice.”

Marcelo discussed the Brazil national team and whether they are a strong as Real Madrid too, he explained: “Are Real Madrid stronger than the national team? One is a club the other is a national team. It’s completely different.

“Do you think the Brazil lack stars? Is that your question? I think it’s low. You just have to look at our national team, the players that are here. Also those that aren’t on the list.”

The Real Madrid full back concluded by revealing that he thinks Spain are the best nation in the world.

“Spain are currently the best in the world,” Marcelo said. “Although I didn’t see any changes after Brazil beat Spain in the Confederations Cup. Before they had a lot of respect for Brazil, and they still do.”
