Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis has praised his opposite number Fabio Coentrao ahead of this Saturday’s Champions League final with Real Madrid in Lisbon, with it looking ever-probable that the Portuguese will start ahead of Brazilian Marcelo in the showpiece event.

Luis, who narrowly missed out on a World Cup berth last week, told reporters ahead of the game: “Coentrao is one of the best left backs in the world, in my opinion. He has control and delivery as well as calmness and patience.”

Luis also revealed that he had spoken with veteran midfielder Tiago who, despite spells at Lyon, Juventus and Chelsea, has never before played in the final: “Last week I spoke with Tiago about the Champions League and its history.. winning this final is the dream of all because it is the second most important after the World Cup final. Hopefully we can bring the trophy.”

Atletico wrapped up the La Liga title last weekend by drawing away at Barcelona and a win on Saturday would cap a remarkable season for the club as rivals Real seek a tenth triumph in the competition.
