Internazionale midfielder Hernanes has hailed retiring club legend Javier Zanetti.

The veteran made his last appearance at the San Siro for the Nerazzurri on Saturday, as Inter defeated Lazio 4-1.

Speaking to Sky Sport 24, Hernanes praised Zanetti’s attitude in training and insists the Argentinian motivates him to improve.

“I see that he is 40 years old and he continues to always work his hardest in training,” he said, as reported by Football Italia. “He always makes sure he is ready to play.

“What he has made me think about is all the sacrifices he has made in order to maintain his physical and mental shape.

“During his farewell I saw the affection and the respect the fans, the club and everyone have for the captain.

“It has given me even more motivation, he has motivated me.”

Zanetti, who was capped 145 times by Argentina between 1994 and 2011, joined Inter from Banfield in 1995. Since then, he has made over 850 appearances for the club and won 16 major honours.
