Botafogo head coach Vagner Mancini is excited about what new signing Carlos Alberto de Jesus can bring to the Serie A club and insists that the player has joined in a bid to regain the reputation that earned him a big money move to Portuguese side Porto in 2004.

Carlos Alberto, 29, left Fluminense in for Europe in a career that has also taken in spells at Werder Bremen in Germany and multiple loan deals back in Brazil, and Mancini says that his new man can certainly push the club on to qualify for a second consecutive Copa Libertadores.

“I know him well and I know the potential of Carlos Alberto is above average in many things, but he has played so little,” Mancini told Goal, “If we analyze our lives, we all would have done something different.”

“The moment is not to judge, it is embrace Carlos Alberto so that he can strengthen us.”

The talented playmaker won five caps for Brazil between 2003 and 2005, but fell out of favour with national selectors in his time at Porto.
