In light of the Dani Alves banana incident and the Donald Sterling NBA racism scandal, racism is currently high on the agenda.
In a recent interview with the Miami Herald, Pelé was asked about his experience of such discrimination.
“I never had any problems,” said the 73-year-old.
“On the contrary, I have open doors all over the world, and I am received marvellously wherever I go.”
“There are always crazy people who say things, but those things have never bothered me. I never paid attention.”
