Flamengo goalkeeper Felipe has laughed off suggestions that he was affected by the abuse directed at him by fans of former club Corinthians when the two sides met at the weekend; the team from Sao Paulo eased to a 2-0 win to continue a solid start to the 2014 campaign, whereas Rio’s Flamengo are struggling with one point from the opening two fixtures.

Felipe, who has been at his current side for two years, told reporters after the game: “Do not worry about it. If they do it it is because they still feel something.”

“Today I am at Flamengo, who pays my salary. I have to defend the fans of my tea. It is four years since I left (Corinthians).”

“It’s like marriage. Because they are cursing me they are remembering my name.”

In his three years at Corinthians, Felipe won the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and the 2008 Serie B division, whilst at Flamengo he has helped to win two Carioca state championships and last season’s Copa do Brasil.
