Flamengo defender Andre Santos has spoken of his disappointment at not being able to progress to the second round of the Copa Libertadores but insists that a Carioca title win would numb the pain somewhat for players and fans alike.

Talking with the club’s official website, the left back said: “We really wanted this Libertadores. But a title (Carioca) is something that gives us courage and strength. We know it will be difficult but it will be important for the rest of the year.”

Sunday’s game against Vasco da Gama follows a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Maracana and the winners will get an automatic boost ahead of the Brasileiro national championships which get underway on the weekend of April 19.
