Santos thrashed Ponte Preta 4-0 in the quarter final of the Paulista A1 to set up a semi final against the conquerors of Sao Paulo, Penapolense, as the teams that finished first and eighth in the league stage met on Wednesday night.

Once again the home side’s host of attacking options came to the fore, albeit star striker and most expensive signing Leandro Damiao failed to trouble the scorers.

A humble 1-0 half time lead, courtesy of a strike from Cicero, was transformed into a landslide victory in the second period, as goals from Geuvanio, Gabriel and Diego Cardoso (on for the aforementioned Damiao) wrapped up a comprehensive win for Santos.

They are unbeaten in the month of March and will begin their Campeonato Brasileiro campaign against Sport Recife on April 20.
