Atletico Mineiro celebrated their 106th anniversary with a tweet from current superstar Ronaldinho as the club look to do the ‘impossible’ and defend the Copa Libertadores this year.
“Happy to have been part of the history of so many glories and achievements. Congratulations Rooster on its 106 years!”, the number 10 World Cup winner posted.
The Belo Horizonte outfit are perhaps better known on a global scale thanks to the signing of Ronaldinho, which in turn enabled them to have the abilities for continental domination. Although not one of Brazil’s traditional club heavyweights, Mineiro have an impressive honours list.
Galo, as they are known in Portuguese, won the Campeonato Brasileiro in 1971 and have been runners-up on four occasions; they won the Libertadores of course in 2013 and have been crowned Mineiro state champions an incredible 42 times, including the past two years.
