The Brazil left-back claims that Sergio Ramos" sending-off was instrumental in Real’s Clássico defeat at the Bernanbeu but is already focussing his attentions on the next game.

Marcelo endured a difficult afternoon on Sunday as Real Madrid lost 4-3 at home to Barcelona.

“Playing with ten men made life difficult. The league is far from over though and anything could happen. Barcelona are a great team and we came up short this time around, but there is a long way to go," said the 25-year-old.

“We tried to do what the coach asked us to; we always try to play well in every game and that goes for the defence too. We came up short and we need to learn from it to make sure there is no repeat."

“We fought hard, but it became a big ask when we went down to ten men. We"re going to try to make amends by winning in a fortnight"s time [in the ‘Copa del Rey" final against Barcelona]."

There are a lot of matches to go and even if we"d won, the league wouldn"t be in the bag yet."

“We have to keep fighting. Now we have to focus on the match in Seville, which is another cup final, and we have to win come what may," he completed.
