Despite only winning six games throughout the whole of last season, the MLS side have now won their opening two games of this campaign.

A 1-0 victory at home to DC United saw Toronto FC’s perfect start continue in front of a sell-out crowd of over 22,000.

Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César more than played his part.

The 34-year-old’s clearance downfield eventually found its way to compatriot Gilberto, whose shot fell kindly into the path of strike-partner Jermaine Defoe to slot home in the 60th minute.

Manager Ryan Nelsen is preaching caution at this early stage of the franchise’s eighth season.

“I don’t think we’re a top team right now. We’re very well organised but I don’t think we’ve seen the best of us. You won’t see the best of us because we’re still new,” said the former QPR player.

“I think we still have a long way to go as a team.”

“We’ll play better than that probably and lose games,” he added.
