With less than three months to go until the start of this year’s World Cup, Corinthians have admitted that the Itaquerão stadium will not be completed by the final deadline of April 15.

Andres Sanchez, the general coordinator of the stadium, blamed the slow release of funds and the accident which occurred last year killing two workmen for the delays.

UEFA President Michel Platini has not held back in his assessment of the current situation.

“The biggest problem is São Paulo. There are still questions about the number of seats. FIFA want to know exactly how many there are.”

“There are also additional structures that nobody wants to pay for,” said the 58-year-old.

The stadium held it’s first training session last weekend when Corinthians used the venue for the first time.
