Sebastien Eguren, the Palmeiras midfielder, has suggested that their late, late 3-2 win over Ponte Preta in the Paulista state championship on Saturday was something which they would not have achieved as a team previously, and hopes that the fighting spirit shown by the side can continue throughout the 2014 season.

“The Palm has shown this overcoming power and turned some games,” said Uruguayan Eguren, “on Saturday, our team gave everything and got the result. This hadn’t happened at other times in the past year.”

Talking about his goal, the 33 year-old said: “As my family was watching the game, I dedicated it to them, since they’ve watched me for some time, especially with my kids there. I told Alan Kardec to make me a goal soon and he did.”

The victory kept Palmeiras at the top of their Paulista A1 section and on course for a 23rd Sao Paulo state championship.
