Atletico Mineiro returned to winning ways after their midweek draw in the Copa Libertadores with an easy 3-0 state championship win against Boa on Sunday afternoon. The hosts, who have won every other game they have played in the month of March, never looked in any trouble against their opponents and remain second in the Mineiro table following the result.

It was 22 year-old striker Marion that was the hero for Atletico, bagging a brace for his side after 23 and then 39 minutes. Marion even had the time to look like an old man in comparison to the scorer of the third goal, Carlos Carvalho; the 18 year-old’s 68th minute strike showed that there is plenty of youth coming through at a club carrying the ever-tiring legs of Ronaldinho and Gilberto Silva.

Mineiro’s next game is the reutrn leg of their Copa Libertadores league fixture against Nacional Ascuncion on Wednesday evening- the pair drew 2-2 in Paraguay and a victory for the Brazilians will put them in the box seat to reach the knockout stages as defending champions.
