Sao Paulo suffered a first defeat in the month of March as Ituano stole all three points in this Paulista state championship game at the Morumbi stadium.

The hosts had been impressive in their past fixtures, winning their past four games with relative ease, including a 3-2 away win at Corinthians. However, Tricolor came unstuck against Ituano. whose 14th minute goal from Esquerdinha was enough to take home the spoils.

Sao Paulo’s frustration at not being able to break down a stubborn defence was exemplified when, after 87 minutes, Paulo Henrique Ganso was shown a straight red card that will no doubt rule him out of the next few matches.
