Brazilian-born Diego Costa has revealed his delight at being called up for his Spain debut against Italy next week.

The Atlético Madrid forward appeared for Brazil twice in 2013 but in uncompetitive matches so can represent La Roja and speaking to AS.com he revealed his happiness.

Costa said: “I am very happy about the call from [coach Vicente] Del Bosque. It is very special for me that the game against Italy is in the Calderon."

The player later gave an interview with television channel Canal+ Liga and the player revealed the conversations he has had with Del Bosque.

"I really liked the way Del Bosque spoke to me," added Costa.

"I told him I didn’t want to be called up for Spain if anyone was going to be upset by it, because they’re the best and the group is what’s most important.

"I’m going to give my all for the shirt."

Costa of course will be playing for Spain in another uncompetitive match but will certainly be a Spanish international and is likely to go with them to the World Cup now.
