After having his name chanted by the Flamengo fans on Wednesday night after scoring in the Copa Libertadores, Hernane has decided to reject a move to China.

The 27-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Shanghai Shenhua. Lancenet.com stated that he was likely to complete his move earlier this week.

However, a lack of guarantees at the Chinese club and his love for Flamengo has ensured the Brazilian striker will now stay in Rio de Janeiro for the time being.

Hernane’s agent Paul Pitombeira confirmed to Lancenet.com that the deal was off because of the desire of his client to remain with Mengão, whilst the forward will now receive a 20% increase in his current monthly salary.

Pitombeira said: “The will of Hernane was always to remain at Flamengo. He very much wants to help Flamengo win the Libertadores.”

A challenging aim for the forward who has been at the club since 2012 but with him in form anything is possible.

Hernane has been a massive success with the club averaging better than a goal every two games and was their top goalscorer in all competitions last season.

With Hernane staying for the 2014 season, it might be a better year than initially expected for Flamenego.
