The King expects the South Americans to cause some upsets at the tournament which starts on June 12.

Despite being in a difficult group containing both Holland and Spain, Pelé believes that Chile are one of the South American countries, along with Brazil and Argentina, likely to do well at this year’s World Cup.

According to the King, Chile have what it takes to be one of the four semi-finalists in the competition.

“I expect that Brazil will be champions and I have seen lots of teams because I’ve been travelling around the world to represent Dilma (Rousseff – Brazil’s President) for the World Cup. Right now, Germany have a very good team as do, of course, Spain. Argentina and Italy also need to be respected. There are other teams that are less talked about. Chile, for example, have been doing really well and could spring a few surprises. These teams should make it to the semi-finals,” said the three-time World Cup winner at an event for Coca-Cola in Egypt.

In 2010, Chile reached the second round before being beaten 3-0 by Brazil.
