Brazilian domestic champions Cruzeiro were brought back down to earth with a bang as they slumped to an opening day Copa Libertadores defeat to Real Garcilaso of Peru in Cusco.

Cruzeiro, who won the Campeonato Brasileiro at a canter last term, were leading at half time, thanks to a goal after minutes by Bruno Rodrigo, assisted by Dagoberto. However, Garcilaso took all three points through strikes by Britez and Rodriguez to prove that a continental title will not come as easy to the Brazilians.

After the game, ex-Brazil international Tinga lamented racial abuse he received after coming on as a second half substitute. Monkey chants were hears to have been made, according to lancenet.com, as Cruzeiro’s day of misery finished in the worst possible way.
