Walter could not have hoped for a better debut as he scored the third goal in Fluminense’s 3-0 win over Flamengo in Saturday’s state championship match at the Maracanã.
He was making his debut 21 days after arriving at the club and after the game the 24-year-old spoke about his goal and also his weight, something that is often the subject of questions.
“I was really nervous. I haven’t played for two months so to score on my return is great. It was my first at the Maracanã. I’m losing weight thanks to the coach (Renato Gaúcho) who is working me really hard. In one month I’ll be ready and strong. I want to thank everyone at Fluminense,” said the former Goiás star.
“I weigh 99kg and my aim is to gradually reduce this. God is great and is with me. My wife is helping me a lot. I’m suffering but it would be really good to lose another 7kg, most of the fat. I guarantee that I’ll lose more.”
Goals from Michael and Elivelton completed the rout and helped Fluminense to the top of the Campeonato Carioca table.
