Santos youngster Stefano Yuri has spoken to the press following his goalscoring exploits on Thursday which overshadowed Leandro Damião’s peixe debut.
Yuri, only 19, came on to replace Damião against Linense and scored the winner but he revealed that the man he replaced gave him words of encouragement.
Lance reported quotes from the talented youngster, he said: “He (Damião) encouraged me in the locker room.
“He said you can not give up, you have to do the same to get a goal.
“I thank god that my first goal came, I helped the team with a goal that came at an important moment, from now on I want to keep scoring.”
Yuri went on to describe two people that played a huge part in the young forward’s development.
One was Pepinho, his coach in the recent Copa São Paulo Youth Cup and another was Claudinei Oliveira who was first team coach at Santos for the final six months of 2013.
Yuri said: “I played in Uberlândia and the test came, I stayed there for a week, and three days later they called me. Claudinei and Pepinho, who evaluated me.”
The young Brazilian can have Pepinho and Oliveira to thank for first team opportunities this season and he’ll look to continue scoring in the famous black and white shirt.
