Guto Ferreira has resigned from his post as Portuguesa manager and has wished his now former club the best of luck in the future.

The Brazilian manager decided to tender his resignation after they lost again in the State Championship to make it five games without a win.

Ferreira joined the club in 2013 and helped them finish a respectable 12th in the Brasileirão, however they have currently been deducted points and look set to begin 2014 in the second division.

They will now be without Ferreira though who released a statement about his departure.

Ferreira said: “I’d like to thank all employees, managers, players and fans of Portuguesa who have supported me during the months I was in charge of the team.

“I clarify that I have decided to leave the position of Portuguesa coach to understand that this is the idea place for another professional to come and try to change a situation that is not consistent with the tradition of this club.

“I created strong bonds of affection and so I need to think about the greater good of all of Portuguesa and understood, therefore, that this decision needed to be taken.

“I tried all the ways to accelerate the process of strengthening the team but the results did not come the way we wanted. I hope the new manager can reach and improve this situation. I had great pride and satisfaction of working here and wish success to all those involved in anyway with the club.”
