West Bromwich Albion are readying a bid for Valencia forward Jonas, according to reports.

Sky Sports claims that the Premier League side, who recently appointed Spaniard Pepe Mel as manager, are hopeful of concluding a deal before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Jonas joined Valencia in January 2011 after a spell with Grêmio. The 29 year-old’s been instrumental for Los Che ever since and has shown his worth this season with nine goals in 18 appearances.

Given that Portugal international Hélder Postiga is reportedly set to leave to join Lazio and Dorlan Pabón has gone to São Paulo, tempting Valencia into a sale may not be easy.

Losing Jonas as well as Postiga and Pabón would leave manager Juan Antonio Pizzi with just Eduardo Vargas and Paco Alcácer as his only recognised strikers.
