Brazil national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has praised Cristiano Ronaldo, this year’s winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, and applauded the decision to name him the best in the world.

The Portugal and Real Madrid forward was given the award during today’s ceremony and Scolari, who managed Ronaldo during his time as Portugal manager, praised the footballing great for his achievements over last year.

The 28-year-old scored 69 goals in 59 games for club and country in 2013 and Lance quoted Scolari’s thoughts on Ronaldo, Felipão also wished the Real Madrid star a successful 2014.

“He is a player who has made an effort to improve every year and every year he beats his record.

“For absolute certainty, absolute confidence and for all that he did, I think the vote for him as the best in the world is correct.

“I hope he uses all this work he has been doing and helps the Portuguese national team, especially in the World Cup 2014.”

Ronaldo and Scolari enjoyed great success when together with Portugal. Felipão managed them to the final of Euro 2004 and to fourth at the 2006 World Cup.

Although Felipão wishes Ronaldo all the best in the World Cup, he won’t do if they end up facing Brazil during this year’s tournament.
