Taboão da Serra beat the Porto Alegre outfit 2-0 to top the group and advance to the next stage.

Already eliminated from 45th edition of the Copinha, Grêmio had the opportunity to give their fans at least something to cheer about when they faced Taboão da Serra in their final game of the youth competition. They were unable to match their opponents, however, who ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Gustavo.

After only managing draws against São Caetano and Luverdense, the gaúcho side were mathematically eliminated from the competition on Monday as their group Q rivals, Taboão da Serra, had already achieved the two victories they needed to qualify.

Friday’s defeat means that Grêmio leave the competition with just two points from three games. The team utilised players well beneath the maximum age stipulated in the rules as a good number of the under-20 players are already in pre-season preparing for the first games of the Gaúcho Championship.
