The Estadio Beira-Rio, the renovated home of Porto Alegre side Internacional,  is 97% complete, according to reports on copadomundo.uol.net.

The stadium has gone under an extensive facelift in preparation for this summer’s World Cup and will allow a cpapacity of over 50,000 spectators upon completion. It will host four Group games as well as one Second Round match between the winners of group G and the Runners Up of Group H.

FIFA has set a deadline of February 28 for all stadia to be ready and it appears that the Beira-Rio will reach its target comfortably. Brazil has not had its problems to seek regarding the completion of host venues, with several tragic and well-documented accidents adding to the pressure of getting the job done.

The news is also a positive for Inter fans, who have just witnessed the sale of the club’s most prized asset, Leandro Damiao, to rivals Santos.

With no Brazil matches scheduled during the tournament for Porto Alegre, Damiao will not have the opportunity to play at the newly-refurbished stadium for the national side for the forseeable future.
