In an interview with FIFA’s weekly magazine, Pelé has been discussing the great players of the modern era. According to the ‘King’, as he is widely referred to in Brazil, Messi is the one that most resembles his style.

“Ronaldo, Ribery and Ibrahimovic are different types of players, but they all attack as I attacked. But in terms of the role on the team, Messi is the one with the most similar style to mine,” he analysed.

Asked about which player he thought was the best, Pelé sat himself firmly on the fence. “You can’t compare one with the other, it’s impossible to answer that question. Given the style and the way they perform their role on the pitch, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic are the most similar. Ribery is a classic winger, while Messi simply cannot be compared with anyone.”
