Goiás forward Walter has retracted a claim that he would like to join Corinthians.

The 24 year-old, who has scored 13 goals in 31 appearances this season, denies that he wants to move to the São Paulo-based club.

“Imagine being sought by Corinthians,” he said, as reported by GOAL.com. “The rumour makes me happy because I think they are the main team in Brazil.

“Many fans were upset with the Goiás statement, but I was happy as it is recognition of the job I’ve done. My desire is to continue in Goiás, I’ve never denied it.”

Walter claims that he could never move to Corinthians, anyway, because São Paulo is too big a city.

“I am not going to Corinthians,” he continued. “They are a great team but I could not get used to a city with heavy traffic. São Paulo is very big and I am used to a small place. You can be certain I will not go to São Paulo.”

Walter is on loan at Goiás for a second consecutive season from Porto. Last term, he was part of a side that got promoted from the Brasileirão Série B.

Porto sign him in August 2010 from Internacional. He won the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, UEFA Europa League and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira twice, before having a spell on loan at Cruzeiro, where he failed to make an appearance.
