Álvaro Negredo insists Diego Costa would be welcomed into the Spanish national team.

The Manchester City forward believes Costa can strengthen the group, while admitting he is a big fan of the 25 year-old.

“He"s [Costa] a great player and you can"t argue with that," said Negredo, speaking at a press conference ahead of Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia, as reported by AS

"If he comes to the team to contribute, strengthen the team and support the team then he will be welcomed, but it"s up to [Vicente] Del Bosque to decide if he does.

“I like him a lot as a player. I"ve always wanted to have him in my team. Would he fit in well? Everyone says he is very different off the pitch to on it."

Costa is widely expected to switch allegiance from Brazil to Spain, with the hope of playing for La Furia Roja at next summer’s World Cup.

His desire to so has frustrated Seleção head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who handed Costa two caps – against Italy and Russia – earlier this year.

Felipão’s decision to overlook him for the Confederations Cup – where Costa would have played competitively and thus been bound to Brazil – seems to have pushed the forward towards Spain.
