Grêmio’s striker Marcelo Moreno announced after the 1-1 draw against Argentina that he is quiting the Bolivian national team.

The striker was born in Bolivia to Brazilian and Bolivian parents, played at Brazil’s national team but decided to play for Bolivia’s senior national team.

Despite not playing often at Grêmio, he has been a regular part of Bolivia’s national team and scored a goal in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Argentina for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Bolivia have only 9 points and have almost no hope of qualifying for the World Cup. They will face Venezuela in their next Qualifiers game.

Bolivia’s Rádio Panamericana reported that sources close to the player confirmed that he cried for several minutes in the dressing room after the game.

Marcelo Moreno talked about the decision, he said: “Yes, it’s a decision I made. I just need to analyze if it was a good decision or not. The whole Bolivian press already knows it”.

His father Mauro Martins believes this is only temporary and that Marcelo Moreno’s decision will be confirmed by the time Bolivia announce the squad for April 6’s friendly against Brazil.
