Botafogo midfielder Clarence Seedorf has waded into the debate over the mixed fortunes of the two Milan clubs this season.

The Netherlands international, who played for both San Siro sides during his career, spoke of his former employers and believes both clubs need to improve next season.

But Seedorf, who was bizarrely sent off at the weekend for leaving the pitch in the wrong manner, says Mario Balotelli is a great addition to the AC Milan side.

“I believe that the arrival of Balotelli has been very important for Milan,” he told Sky Sport Italia of the Italy striker, who scored the equaliser in Italy’s 2-2 draw with Brazil.

“He has shown great enthusiasm. Mario is doing very well, but I think he can still improve. I believe Milan are ready to do well in Italy and in Europe.

“Inter meanwhile, let many big players leave, and the team is suffering because of this. I think this is a year of transition.”
