Atlético Mineiro secured a narrow 2-1 away victory over Bolivian side The Strongest in the Copa Libertadores clash at La Paz.

An early goal by Diego Tardelli put the visitors on the front foot after meeting Jô’s cross with a guided header.

The hosts soon equalized just before the break through Harold Reina as he pounced upon a loose ball in the box to tuck home.

Atlético had a stroke of fortune in the dying stages of the match as Luis Méndez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net from a Ronaldinho cross.

The result gives the Brazilians a vital win and sees them through to the next round of the competition.

The win also leaves São Paulo, currently in second place behind Atlético, in a strong position to qualify should they overcome Argentine side Arsenal, a match which will be played on Friday.
