Fabrício respectful of São Paulo director's "shameful" assessment of narrow win
São Paulo midfielder Fabrício has resisted the temptation to criticise club vice-president João Paulo de Jesus Lopes, despite disagreeing with the director's comments after the side's 2-1 Copa Libertadores victory over The Strongest.
Vice-president Lopes described the side's poor performance as “shameful”, despite coming from behind to beat the Bolivians at the Morumbi.
While the typically outspoken midfielder was clear that he disagreed with the board member's assessment, he also defended the official's right to comment on the performance.
“It's difficult for me to comment. Everybody has the right to an opinion and that's his opinion,” he commented. “I don't agree, I think we have to appreciate the three points.
“He has total freedom to speak out and I respect the hierarchy. There is no problem with him giving a statement like this.”
After two fixtures, São Paulo lie second in Group 3 with a win and a defeat to their name, having lost to fellow Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro in the opening round of fixtures.
