Fluminense captain Fred admitted that Grêmio were the better team in their 3-0 home defeat on Wednesday night in the Copa Libertadores.

The defeat was Fluminense’s first of 2013 and Fred, 29, revealed he is worried by the setback but says they have to make sure they recover quickly.

“Everyone saw. Grêmio were far superior and we simply could not play. Before the first goal of the game was equal. After they were far superior.

“All new defeats are the worst I ever suffered. Moreover because we were undefeated this season,” Fred told reporters after the game.

“But we knew that would happen one day. The problem was losing at home. The situation was that the group also made me upset. Now we need to put the head in place and we have to avoid the crash that this result can bring.”

Fluminense will travel away to Chilean side Huachipato in the next round of games in the Copa Libertadores, while Grêmio host Caracas at the Grêmio Arena.
