Brazilian football confederation president Jose Maria Marin has confirmed the appointment of Naútico manager Alexandre Gallo as head coach of the Brazil Under-20 side.

Gallo, who will now leave his role in Recife, will replace the departing Emerson Avila, following the side’s disappointing exit from the current South American Under-20 championship.

In the role, he will work directly under Brazilian icon Bebeto—who was appointed to oversee Brazil’s youth categories earlier this week, as the CBF react to recent criticism.

“I want to thank Naútico, who did not create any obstacle for Gallo to be the coach of the Under-20s,” Marin told reporters.

“We are dealing with an experienced professional who has been doing a good job for the clubs he has managed and, because of this, he has been chosen to manage the Under-20s.”

Before Naútico, Gallo spent time at Avaí, Sport, Bahia and Atlético Mineiro, while he started his coaching career as assistant manager of Corinthians.
