Bayern Munich defender Dante has revealed his excitement at the appointment of Pep Guardiola as the Bavarian giants new coach from next season, but admitted he will be sad to see current coach Jupp Heynckes leave the club.

Dante, 29, was signed by Heynckes last summer after three successful years with Borussia Moenchengladbach, but the Brazilian welcomes the appointment of the former Barcelona coach.

“I had two different reactions because while that Guardiola is coming, who is leaving,” he told Globo Esporte.

“It was Heynckes who brought me. He is helping me to progress and giving me confidence to play. But knowing that Guardiola is coming, kills any anxiety.

“What he does to assemble a team with the ball like Barcelona and how we will be playing together with a coach of worldwide reputation.”

Guardiola surprised everybody by choosing to sign a three-year contract with Bayern, with many expecting him to head to the Premier League. But Dante believes he has made the correct choice.

“I welcome him, of course, wish good luck and I’m sure that this group will not disappoint him.

“We will open our arms to him and do everything so he can do a great job in winning the titles in Europe and the world.

“The structure of Bayern is incomparable. Of course, in terms of staff, Barca has irreplaceable players like Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, but here we have a lot of quality players: Ribery, Robben, Muller, Lahm … are many world-class players. I think he will not have much work to impose his style.”
