Grêmio have sent club officials to Italy in an attempt to snap up Roma midfielder Marco Marquinho this month.

Rogerio Braun and Stefano Castagnos have touched down in the Italian capital with the task of taking the 26-year-old back to South America with them.

Recent reports suggested that negotiations between the two clubs were at an advanced stage for a temporary loan move worth €2million.

Marquinho was said to be close to joining league rivals Palermo, however, it has been reported he turned down the loan switch to Sicily.

The Brazilian has one goal in 13 League appearances this term, however, the ex-Fluminense player has come on as a substitute in 11 of those.

Marquinho has been left out of Zdeněk Zeman’s squad for tonight’s Coppa Italia game at Fiorentina for disciplinary reasons following his reaction to being replaced at Catania on Sunday.
