Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has been named in the Uefa.com users’ Team of the Year for the second year running.

Silva, 28, who moved from Italian giants AC Milan to last season’s Ligue 1 runners up for €42million in July, was chosen in central defence alongside Barcelona’s Gerard Piqué in the team, and, along with Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo and Bayern Munich full-back Philipp Lahm, was one of the three players selected who did not play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Around 5.3million votes were recorded by Uefa from about 500,000 registered users and a representative from the selection will receive a check for €100,000 to be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
