Fluminense star Deco has revealed he would welcome the arrival of former Boca Juniors midfielder Juan Román Riquelme.

The ex-Argentine international has been linked to a number of clubs in Brazil after his decision not to return to Boca, despite turning up for the first day of pre-season training.

Palmeiras, who were relegated from the Brasileirão last season, are thought to be leading the way to sign the former Barcelona man, however, Fluminense are also rumoured to be interested.

Deco said: “I do not know if he will be recruited, it is the directors who manage that part but if this is the case, he will be welcome here.”

The 35-year-old, who helped Fluminense claim the Série A title last season, also stated that he would not be worried by potential competition in midfield from Riquelme.

He added: “I do not see any problem. Players adapt easily to quality players.”

Deco also spoke of his desire to win this year’s Copa Libertadores, in which the league champions have drawn against Chile’s Huachipato, Venezuela’s Caracas and the winner of the tie between fellow Brazilians Grêmio and Ecuador’s LDU Quito.

The Libertadores is a dream, not only of the fans but also the players,” he concluded.

“I have never won this competition and I’m preparing for that. But football is not an exact science, it’s not just train and win. There are other teams that are also prepared and want to win as much as us.”
