Santos 3-0 Remo

A comfortable win for Santos in the end, but there is plenty to work on for the young Alvinegro side as Remo gave a good account of themselves against much fancied opponents.

The Peixe took the lead early on when goalkeeper Negão failed to deal with Jubal’s header, but found themselves up against hardworking opponents.

Remo tired, though, and with ten minutes to go, substitute forward Stefano Yuri set up playmaker Léo Cittadini for the side’s second. Yuri himself added a third in the final moments of the encounter, after a lovely flicked pass with the outside of his boot from Givanildo.

The favourites didn’t help themselves by squandering two penalty kicks, one in either half. The first, from Gustavo Henrique, was well saved by Negão, before Givanildo pulled his late effort wide of the post.

Man of the Match: Lucas Otávio (Santos) – A composed showing from the deep-lying midfielder, who was always available to offer his centre-backs an out-ball. Only 18 years old, Lucas has a real maturity about his ball retention in midfield.

Santos XI: Gabriel; Douglas, Gustavo Henrique, Jubal, Canavarros; Lucas Otávio, Leandrinho, Pedro Castro, Léo Cittadini; Diego, Givanildo

Remo XI: Negão; Andrey, Gabril, Yan Rodrigo, Alex; Biro, Guilherme; Nana, Rodrigo; Williams, Jayme.

Elsewhere in Group V: São Matheus 1-0 Corinthians-AL (Tácio)
