Lucas Leiva’s Liverpool claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sunderland in their Premier League clash at Anfield.

The Brazilian was restored to the first eleven for the Reds after being rested in their 3-0 win over QPR on Sunday.

Lucas gave an assured performance at the heart of the Liverpool midfield as they strolled to an easy win over the Black Cats.

Liverpool were quicker out of the blocks as they raced into a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Raheem Sterling goal, a lob over the advancing Mignolet after Luis Suarez had put the teenager clean through on goal.

Suarez then turned goalscorer as a swift counterattack left him one on one with the Sunderland goalkeeper, the Uruguayan lashing the ball home to double Liverpool’s lead.

After the break, Suarez was chief tormentor once more as he latched onto Steven Gerrard’s pass to notch his second of the evening and his 15th league goal of the season.

The result means the Reds now climb up to 8th whereas Sunderland remain in 14th place.
