Fluminense will announce the capture of right-back Wellington Silva once the transfer window opens in January, reports suggest.

Wellington, 24, is still technically on loan to Fluminense’s traditional rivals until 31 December, but the club have apparently struck an agreement with both the player and owners Resende over a January transfer.

Besides Flamengo’s never-ending financial dramas, Fluminense were also able to offer the full-back a wage increase should he join, as well as the chance to play Copa Libertadores football.

Fluminense, though, will need to wait until January to officially announce the deal, for fear of breaking the player’s contractual agreement that offers their rivals first-option on a transfer.

Wellington, though, has made it clear to his current employers that he has no intention of remaining at the Gávea next campaign.

With Bruno Vieira firmly installed as the Tricolor Carioca’s first-choice right-back at present, Wellington’s arrival will offer the club depth in the position—with Wallace set to depart for Chelsea next summer.
