The New York Red Bulls have announced the signing of veteran midfielder Juninho from Vasco de Gama.
The MLS outfit announced the capture of the 37-year-old Brazilian on their official website on Monday.
Juninho, who represented Brazil at the 2006 World Cup, will be officially added to the team’s roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
Andy Roxburgh, the club’s sporting director, said: “Juninho is a world-class player who our global sporting director, Gerard Houllier, and I have known and admired for many years.
“Aside from being a top dead-ball specialist and a tremendous talent, Juninho is a fantastic professional both on and off the field.
“He is in great physical shape, and we think he can make a positive impact for us in 2013.”
Juninho played under Houllier, who is now Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, at Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
The free-kick specialist spent eight years and made around 250 appearances for the French club before moving to Qatari club Al-Gharafa in 2009.
Juninho has made 50 appearances and scored 14 goals during a second stint with Vasco, having previously spent six years at the Brasileirão side.
