Brazilian midfielder Anderson is set to start for Manchester United against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Wednesday after impressing boss Sir Alex Ferguson with his recent form.

Anderson, 24, came off the bench to devastating effect against QPR on Saturday and helped turn the game around, as United went from being one goal down to leading 3-1 in just eight minutes.

The former Porto midfielder has had a tough time at the club since joining in 2007 for a fee of around £18 million, but it appears the player is finally ready to put his injury troubles behind him and grab a regular first team slot.

Ferguson told Sky Sports: “I thought Ando won the game for us.

“His performance was outstanding. He took the game by the scruff of the neck and he was so positive and determined in his play that he picks himself on Wednesday.”

With Manchester City drawing 0-0 at Chelsea, United stayed top of the Premier League table and they will face a West Ham team that dropped to 8th place after losing 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
