São Paulo were left ruing missed chances as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chileans Universidad Catolica in the Copa Sudamericana.

Ney Franco’s side missed a series of opportunities but managed to score the opener through a header by defender Rafael Toloi.

However, the opposing goalkeeper was in inspired form as he kept out a succession of shots, saving the Chileans time and time again.

Universidad then grabbed a barely deserved goal through Nicolas Castillo but the Brazilians now have home advantage in the second leg as they look to progress to the final.

That fixture will take place on next Wednesday at the Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo.

Meanwhile, Millionarios looks likely to be São Paulo’s opponents should they progress as the Colombians secured a comfortable draw against Argentine side Tigre.
