A 1-1 draw with Flamengo was not enough for struggling Palmeiras as they were relegated from the Brasileirão with two games left to play. Palmeiras had led through Vinícius but a Vágner Love strike earned a draw for the home side.

Staying in the relegation battle, Sport Recife grabbed a vital 2-0 win against Botafogo to bring them within a point from safety thanks to goals from Henrique and Gilberto.

At the other end of the table, Grêmio could only managed a 2-2 draw against relegation battlers Portuguesa after a comeback from two goals down.

Similarly, Atlético Mineiro also drew 2-2 with Atlético GO, failing to take advantage of Grêmio’s slip up to take second place.

São Paulo have all but secured the final Copa Libertadores spot after a 2-1 win against Náutico thanks to a penalty winner from goalkeeper Rogério Ceni.

Cruzeiro beat Fluminense 2-0 thanks to goals from Montillo and Elber in a dead rubber for the Brasileirão champions.

Goals from Guerrero and Edenilson saw Corinthians secure a comfortable 2-0 win over Internacional.

Bahia gave themselves breathing space in the relegation fight as they won 1-0 against Ponte Preta courtesy of a Neto strike.
